Biomedical Science Academy

The Biomedical Science Academy at DVRHS provides students with exposure to concepts in human medicine, anatomy & physiology, genetics, microbiology, and public health. Students engage in activities like investigating the death of a fictional person in order to learn the science content within the context of a real-world problem. The Biomedical Science Academy is a rigorous, focused four-year program for students with career interests in the biomedical field. The program utilizes Project Lead the Way curriculum.

Eligibility

In order to successfully graduate from the Biomedical Science Academy, students must complete at least 20 credits of Biology which includes five credits of Principles of Biomedical Science.

Students taking Principles of Biomedical Science in their freshman year will not be required to take an additional freshman Biology class (Honors Biology or CP Biology) because it is assumed that they will meet the state requirement by taking AP Biology as an upperclassman. All students must pass either CP Biology, Honors Biology, or AP Biology in order to graduate.

AP Biology will continue to be a 10-credit (double block) class through the 2019-2020 school year. Beginning in 2020-2021, AP Biology will be a 5-credit class with a prerequisite of Human Body Systems.

Instructors

Mr. CJ Inglin

Mr. Inglin is in his 13 teaching at Del Val. For ten years, he has been the Biology AP Teacher. The 2017-18 academic year was the first time we offered the Biomedical Sciences Program and he has been an Academy teacher since. He earned his BS from Boston University in Dietetics '11 and his Master's in Secondary Education (Biology) from Western Governors University '21. Most recently he was honored as the district 2024-2025 Educator of the Year.

Ms. Rebecca Wilson

Before joining the wild world of Del Val, Ms. Wilson spent years in the wild—tracking animals, studying their behavior, and occasionally being outsmarted by them. With a background in Wildlife Biology, animal behavior, and research science, she’s swapped muddy boots for lab coats and field journals for whiteboards.

Now, she brings her scientific curiosity to the classroom, teaching anatomy and research methods to the next generation of biomedical trailblazers. Whether she’s dissecting an eyeball, discussing the mysteries of the human brain, or helping students design experiments that actually work, Ms. Wilson keeps things lively, hands-on and active, all in the day of training the scientists of the future!
